Nothing is wasted in life. Every event, experience and situation has its gift. It doesn’t always seem that way but wisdom often emerges with hindsight. There are times when I seriously wondered why I was doing something only to find later in life, that it was useful in some way. As a Work Life Balance Coach, all these experiences expanded my capacity for compassion and helped me to listen without judgment.
So let’s cut to the chase. Here’s the brief story that brings me to the present time, and perhaps how that relates to where you are in life…
After some years working in the computer field through most of the 1970’s, my final role as Computer Operations Manager for a national whitegoods company, gave me a living. But it wasn’t a pleasant experience. In fact, it was terrible. I would go to sleep with a knot in my stomach and wake up with the same tightness eating away at me. Perhaps that is a familiar experience?

I was in the process of becoming a basket case because I didn’t know how to deal with the unrelenting stress of a high pressure job. That experience, dreadful as it was at the time made me ask the questions. ‘What do I really want to do in life? What direction do I want to head in?’
Thus began, and still continues, my fascination for what makes us tick. I studied many models of human behaviour and personal motivation over the past 30 years and slowly gathered resources which would prove invaluable for myself and future clients.
Since the late 1980’s I have provided corporate facilitation in team building, time management, leadership, thinking skills, advanced training, effective communication and more across industries such as accounting, banking, finance, insurance, law, hospitality, tourism, State and Local government departments, manufacturing, health, leisure and entertainment, clothing and fashion, real estate, training and education, disability services, engineering and many others.
My training in ‘Coaching ‘started with the work of Thomas Leonard and ‘Coachville’, the pioneering Institute he set up in the USA. This continued with the Institute for Executive Coaching and some years later, I co-facilitated a Certificate IV in Life and Business Coaching program at the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE. It was an opportunity to share much that I love about training and coaching.
The other role that is relevant is my time as facilitator of a core program at one of Australia’s best known health retreats on the Gold Coast. Called ‘the Balance Program’, it ran every weekday morning and gave me an opportunity to use all my previous experience and skills to influence and shape the health and wellness of our guests. Our guests ranged from highly stressed out executives and entrepreneurs, professionals of all types, the rich and famous, artists, musicians, the young and old and those simply seeking respite from the stresses and craziness of the world.
It was from this experience that I first formulated my practice as a ‘Work Life Balance Coach’. Besides my own early stressful experiences in the corporate world, I saw the effects of unrelenting career pressure, the demands of family and personal life take their toll. I determined to do something about it.
People tell me that the best thing they get from my coaching is a sense of possibility in achieving success without compromising the rest of their lives; a light at the end of the tunnel.
How about you? How is your journey going? If something I have said speaks to you, let’s chat.
